EastEnders’ 40th anniversary is going to go off with one heck of a bang next year, with the show’s main character literally blowing up.
Yep, the Queen Vic is for the chopping block, as an explosion will tear through the iconic building – and you can bet some other key players in the show will be caught up in the blast.
It seems like death will come knocking in the big episodes, with many lives left at risk – are we set to lose more than just the infamous decor?
And it’s not the only big news coming out about the much-anticipated week of celebration – an iconic character from the 90s has also signed up for a comeback.
Holby City’s Paul Bradley will arrive back in Walford as amiable former video shop king Nigel Bates.
BFF to the late, great Dot Cotton, as well as Grant Mitchell – also rumoured to be coming back, with Ross Kemp hanging about Elstree recently – Nigel’s comeback story remains under wraps.
But with a killer explosion, a likely wave of comebacks and also a live edition of the soap which hands a decision on a couple’s outcome directly to the audience, it’s clear EastEnders are going all out.
It will also be the last hurrah of soap boss Chris Clenshaw on the show after a much celebrated tenure, as he steps down from the role to make way for incoming producer Ben Wadey.
‘Bosses are keeping tight-lipped on their plans for the anniversary, so as to not spoil anything for viewers,’ The Sun were told by an insider.
‘But in scenes just filmed they have shot a huge explosion that tears The Vic apart.
‘The pub is always central to the drama but this time they are taking it even further with lives expected to be left hanging in the balance.
